(F to Cow) “What a needy girl you are,” Candace laughed. She reached for the pail, letting it clank loudly before approaching her prized heifer. Even though it had only been a few weeks, she’s gotten gallon after gallon from the cow with no end in sight. “Ready for round… Fourteen? Fifteen? The subway wasn’t Miriam’s favorite way to travel, but that’s where she found herself. She was on her way to her friend’s house. It was a Saturday afternoon, and Miriam was wedged between two people. The older black man on her left was well dressed. Miriam imagined him to be some sort of fancy lawyer, taking a quick snooze on his way home. There was a younger mom on her right, holding her baby. The baby kept looking at her with big brown eyes. Miriam refused to meet its gaze.
